Our pond pond BulrushesBulrushes are grown in a private, wildlife nature pond in Wales in a rural, countryside, farming setting. The pond is a naturally functioning pond with much biodiversity and wildlife with countryside and woodland streams feeding into it. We do not use any pesticides or chemicals to control the pond.
Attached photos are all of the actual pond.
Great Reed Mace is often called Bulrush (Bulrushes). This is a native, shallow water, marginal pond, plant. Leaves are long and the brown seed heads grow on tall strong stems.
Bulrushes are wildlife friendly creating an environment for ducks and moor hens to nest.
This is a vigorous plant when planted directly into the soil and will spread if not controlled. It can be contained in a large pot if required. It is suitable for planting directly into pots or into ponds/lakes, depending on the requirement.
The plants can grow up to 250cm (2.5m) in height. Planting depth should be approx. 0-50cm of water over soil level. We recommend a 19cm planting basket for one plant or, for more impact, plant several of the same variety in a larger basket if not being planted in a pond.
These marginal water plants will be shipped bare root, which means that we wash the soil off the roots before packing plants. During the summer months we may need to trim some of the foliage back for shipping.
When you place your order, we will put on our waders and remove the plants from the pond and package them for shipping as bare roots.
While we do our best to keep the pond unpolluted and as clean as possible, we cannot guarantee that there will not be any transfer of organisms, pests, bacteria or disease that may be present in the pond.
Please unpack and plant as soon as possible. We will not be responsible for any plants that perish.
Plants are living organisms. We will not process or offer any refunds on the sale of these plants under any circumstances.
As part of this order, we will send two healthy bare root Bulrushes.
IMPORTANT: Shipping includes handling and packaging, and delivery by MyHermes (2-3 day courier service) to a UK address. If you require a different delivery service, please contact us before we dispatch – additional fees may apply.
If you are not available to receive this delivery from MyHermes on three delivery attempts, the parcel will be delivered back to us (or it will be dropped off at a collection depot) and you will have to pay for a new delivery service. If this happens, it is unlikely that the plants will have survived and you will need to place a new order. We do not take responsibility for any late deliveries.
