Smart sprinkler controller: Eve Aqua review

Eve Aqua Review

Hot on the heels of our Eve Weather review, we have another great outdoor Thread-enabled gadget to check out: the Eve Aqua smart water controller. This is a great device if you’re looking to automate your sprinkler or small home irrigation system, and it also keeps track of how much water you’re consuming.

One thing we didn’t mention in the video review is that the Eve Aqua doesn’t detect the flow rate (litres per minute) of the water from your tap. You have to input this yourself, and it’ll naturally vary on the pressure of your water. To calculate ours, we took a 10 litre watering can, opened the tap and started the stopwatch on our iPhone. We got lucky and didn’t have to do much maths because it took 59 seconds to fill our 10 litre watering can, so we set our app to 10 litres per minute.

From there, when the app starts a schedule or when you start watering manually, the app will work out how much water you’ve used in that watering session. As an additional point, if you’re watering manually and start the Eve Aqua and water for say two minutes, then turn the gun off, the Eve Aqua will still assume you’re watering and will give you an erroneous reading.

To be honest, it’s not a massive deal, because the device has been created for sprinklers over manual watering sessions, so it’s worth just keeping that in the back of your mind.
