Amazing homemade peanut butter in less than 5 minutes

by Mars

Homemade peanut butter is one of the easiest thing you can make in the kitchen. Trust me. This recipe is a winner because it’s quick, simple and cheap to make.

I love peanut butter and I’m always astounded by the price of it in supermarkets given how simple (and cheap) it is to make. You can buy a pack of Tesco’s peanuts (550g) for around £2 and I find that this makes a generous amount of peanut butter.

Here’s all you need:

  • 550g bag of roasted or dry roasted peanuts – your choice. Roasted peanuts usually make a smoother peanut butter
  • Two tablespoons of light olive, peanut or canola oil – I like to use light olive oil just don’t use a extra virgin, strong tasting olive oil.
  • Food processor

In terms of the peanuts, if they’re salted it’s fine because they add extra flavour to the peanut butter. Unsalted peanut butter can be a bit bland and unexciting. And yes, ordinary supermarket peanuts will do just fine, and I predominantly use Tesco’s own brand. I also add two tablespoons of oil to get the mixture going.

Open the bag of peanuts and put them in the food processor with the oil of your choice.

Turn the food processor on and leave it running at a low speed (2 or 3 on our Kenwood mixer) for 2-3 minutes.

You’ll see the peanuts transform initially into crumbs. As the processor keeps working, you’ll see the nuts turn into a smooth and creamy liquified peanut butter. Watch the video above to see how quickly it changes. Ours takes just over two minutes to transform the peanuts into a lovely, velvety peanut butter.

You can keep processing for longer if you want it really smooth, but at the two minute mark it’s smooth with a bit of texture which is what I like.

This is what my peanut butter looks like. It’s a bit runny because when you blitz it in the processor it gets really warm and becomes viscous.

At this stage, I transfer it to a jar and it goes in the fridge. This allows it to set and take on the peanut butter texture we all know. After an hour, I transfer it to a kitchen cupboard where it stands at room temperature and it’s ready to go when I fancy some homemade peanut butter on toast.

That’s it. Delicious homemade peanut butter in less than five minutes. It’s that simple.
