Vegan Protein Gnawbles review

protein gnawbles

My wife and I are foodies. We don’t eat fast-food and we generally eat healthy, homemade food. I’m religious about having breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I need snacks to get me through the day, so I was intrigued by Protein Gnawbles.

We were excited when we were contacted by Creative Nature to review these vegan, sustainable nibbles as an alternative to my fruit and nut afternoon snacks. When the package arrived, we had packs of super salted caramel and brilliant orange cocoa to test.

Creative Nature also have a deeply dark chocolate and vanilla dark chocolate flavour which they’re launching at the end of the month (January 2020), so we’ll only be reviewing the two flavours we received.

Full disclosure: these products were gifted to us, and we did not pay for them. The review provided below, however, is objective and honest.

Super salted caramel protein gnawbles

I opened the salted caramel pack first, and I love the taste of them. Taste, I appreciate it, is very subjective, and I really like the combination of the salt, caramel and dark chocolate. There is also a very good balance between the salt and sweetness of the caramel.

Each 30g pack has 143 kcal. For me, based on my daily dietary intake, that means an entire pack is the only snack I can have during the day, and I’m OK with that. As I’m writing this review, I’m popping a gnawble in my mouth and chasing it with a black Columbian coffee.

Brilliant orange cacao protein gnawbles

Taste, like I said above is subjective, and I’ve never been a fan of the orange and dark chocolate flavour combo. These gnawbles deliver on the classic orange/dark chocolate taste. As a result, they’re not my first choice, and I would go for the super salted caramel every time. But that’s me. My wife preferred the orange to the caramel.

Like the salted caramel gnawbles, each 30g pack of the brilliant orange is also is 143 kcal.

They also have reduced sugar, which makes them a bit easier on the teeth, and in my opinion delivers on the orange and cocoa taste, rather than just tasting overriding sweetness.

Ingredients

From an ingredients perspective there are no obvious nasties in these gnawbles. As per the packaging, they are vegan snacks, and are also gluten, dairy and nut safe. There’s also no palm oil, which is great from a sustainability perspective.

I don’t suffer from any allergies, but these nibbles are also touted as being allergen safe from the top 14 offenders, which will be pleasing for people afflicted with dietary limitations.

The Verdict

I really like them. I think the texture is spot on, and the protein nuggets have a delightful crunch when you bite into them. If I’m being honest, I don’t think they’re hugely nutritious, but they are designed as a healthy snack alternative for people that are allergic to nuts.

These nibbles sell for Β£1.49-Β£1.59, so they’re in line with a variety of other snacks on the market, but they are catering for customers that are looking for vegan alternatives or that have food allergies.

From a personal taste perspective, I will not be a customer of their orange cocoa, but I’ll definitely occasionally have the salted caramel protein gnawbles.
